KALYANI, (C.M. Paul) — For couple of months this year, there has been some new initiatives under taken by the parish priest Fr Thomas Peechat. Among them to mark the Year of Faith is the newly constructed grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in front of the church. It has come up in the very place where there was once a fountain within a small pond / water tank.

The water tank and the fountain has been filled in to build the grotto. The grotto that has come up in front of the church is spruced up for prayer with iron railings painted in silver / aluminum paint and flanked by a couple of cement benches.

The solemn blessing of the new grotto built with the generous contribution of some devotees of Our Lady from the parish will take place tomorrow, Sunday 21 April, with a solemn Eucharist presided over by the Salesin provincial Fr E.A. Thomas.

Meanwhile, the marble slab panels along the stairway in front of the church, now behind the grotto, is given a new look with fresh oil paint to match the grotto colours. The cheap marble used for stairway paneling accumulated so much dirt over the last 20 years that the parish priest was compelled to take the drastic step of giving an oil paint coating to the marble!
